Irene + John’s Wedding: California Science Center //110814//

A couple of months ago, I’ve had the pleasure to plan my cousin’s wedding.  Now, you may be wondering how I was able to plan and coordinate a wedding and be able to enjoy my cousin’s special day.  I am very lucky to have such wonderful assistants who helped me coordinate the wedding once the festivities have begun.  The venue for the reception was the Willis Annenberg Building at the California Science Center.  This building was located right next door to the Rose Garden where the ceremony was held.  What made this wedding stand out to me was that this wedding was very different from the weddings that i am used to planning.  Nowadays, many brides prefer the rustic feel for their wedding.  Rustic weddings are one of my favorite themes to plan.  But getting out of my bubble and planning a totally different theme was a challenge but it was so much fun to plan.  The location offers traditional and contemporary beauty.  Where else can you find a botanical garden on the second floor, a beautiful water fountain, and an amazing backdrop?  This beauty was just jaw dropping and I definitely hope that I can plan more events in that space.

Irene and John’s wedding was just so magical.  The venue was transformed into a beautiful and glamorous reception.  With the high and low centerpieces and pink lighting and fluorescent pin spots throughout the room, it was a sight to see.  This wedding was very different for the guests because in an Asian culture, oftentimes, the wedding consists of the tea ceremony, hours at the park taking photos with family and friends, and the reception at a traditional Chinese restaurant a couple of hours later. Irene and John wanted to do something different but include some of the traditions that Irene did not want her family to forget.  We had the tea ceremony in the morning and we also had Lion Dancers at the start of the receptions.  We also did a family style dinner consisting of specialty Chinese dishes.  As soon as dinner was completed, the festivities began and guests enjoyed dancing the night away.  This day was definitely one Irene and John will never forget.

Kevin Le Vu Photography was kind enough to send me some photos of the wedding.  Check it out down below!  If you haven’t had the chance to watch their same day edit video by FonD Productions, click here.

Back Into It

So I feel like I haven’t taken my blog as seriously as I know I should.  I have taken lengthy breaks way too much in the last two years and feel like I would have small spurts of posts then one post a month and then none.  I think my problem is not finding the time to do it.  I quite enjoy reading blogs and have always wanted to create one.  (Hence this blog being in existence). But I just haven’t gotten into the habit of regularly posting.  And it is time that I have.  I have so many ideas that I’ve written down and have wanted to post, but just never got around to doing it.  And I honestly don’t have a real excuse for not posting.  I just haven’t.  Time and time again, my blog would cross my mind and I would think about posting, but events in my life start piling up or happening so suddenly that my blog gets pushed back and eventually, forgotten.  I don’t want that to happen again.  I DO want to post.  I have so many inspirations and ideas for weddings. Since I’ve been assisting and coordinating good amount of weddings the last couple of months of 2014, I would see something that I like or find intriguing and think, “this would totally be blog worthy!” But that’s about it.

But enough is enough.  Time to get off that lazy train and start spilling out my creative juices.  I definitely give props to all the bloggers who are able to blog almost everyday with such wonderful content.  If you have any advice for me, please give them to me!! I’d really appreciate it.

I’ve already come up with a new schedule and I hope I stick with it.  (Planning is not just for weddings!) It takes at least 3 weeks to get into a habit so that is what I’ll do.  Stick with it for 3 weeks and see if it works for me.  I’m excited to finally start blogging again and I can’t wait for the fresh new content to trickle into this blog.

Happy Planning!

Using “#Hashtags” at Your Wedding

original_wedding-instagram-hashtag-print

Instagram has become a big part of our lives.  We take photos of everything and anything and share it with friends and people of the Instagram community.  In today’s world, smart phones have become an essential part of our lives.  It goes everywhere with us and if we forget or lose it, we feel empty inside.  Like we’re missing a piece of ourselves.  So what does Instagram have anything to do with weddings? Because almost everyone at your wedding will have a smartphone and an Instagram account.  They will take tons and tons of photos with you and of your wedding and post it on their page.  So why not have them share it with you by using a unique #hashtag to document your big day? Of course you will have photographers and videographers there for your professional photos and some candid ones, but your friends and family will be taking the amateur photos that the professionals may have missed.  More than likely, you won’t have time to have your photographer take photos with every individual guest at your party.  If your friend or family member happens to be lucky and catch you at a good moment, they can snap a quick pick with you and post it on your unique #hashtag on Instagram.  It’s so simple! And it’s fun to see what other people have taken of you and your groom.

So how do you create a unique #hashtag? You want to make sure it’s not something generic where you will also see photos posted from strangers.  You want a #hashtag that will only have photos posted of your wedding.  When creating the #hasthag, you will also want to create one that is easy for your guests to remember.  Something like #CassieandJamesWedding112914, is pretty long and when your guests has had one too many to drink, that #hashtag will be long forgotten.  Try something like #CandJ112914 or #CJWedding1129 or #JassieWed.  It’s short and to the point and it’s unique.  Once you’ve created your hashtag, you and your guests will definitely not miss a thing at your wedding!

Why You Should Hire a Wedding Planner

062

Do you want to be stressing on the day of your wedding? Do you want to deal with collecting all the RSVP’s from your guests and calculating how many people will be attending your big day? Do you want to be constantly bothered by vendors and guests with questions on the day of your wedding rather than enjoying it fully?  If you answered NO to any of these, this is why you need a wedding planner.  072

Wedding planners are there to help you with all the details of your wedding.  They are there to help you find the perfect venue and vendors.  Unless you know where you’ve always wanted to get married, you wouldn’t want to waste your planning time looking for a venue.  Planners help you narrow down your decisions so that it will be easier to decide on what fits you best.  From your first consultation, a planner tries to figure out your personality and your style so they can easily help you plan the wedding to your perfection.

021

But you want to plan your own wedding anyways? Some brides want to have the chance of being a part of the planning process or a wedding planner may not be in the budget.  She want to be able to make all the decisions on her own without having to consult with a professional.  Wedding coordinators are perfect for these kinds of brides.  The bride meets the coordinator a couple of weeks before to talk about the details of the wedding and what it is they will need help with.  Coordinators are perfect for the day of the wedding because it allows the bride and groom to be stress-free and enjoy their day.  Brides who don’t have coordinators tend to stress out when vendors and guests start coming to them asking them questions about the wedding.  Coordinators will be your go to person when anyone has a question.  That way the happy couple stays happy throughout the day and into the night.  081

I recommend couples to hire a wedding planner because when you work with a professional throughout the whole process, the planner will understand your needs and they’ll feel like your friends rather than another vendor. But if a planner isn’t in your budget or you’ve always wanted to play a part in every aspect of your wedding, then a coordinator would be something you should invest in.  At least have a professional run your wedding to ensure it goes smoothly and worry-free!

Happy Planning!!

Spreading My Love for Influenster

So this post is going to be different.  It is not completely wedding related. I say that because I like to use this account to try to find new products that can help benefit my brides.  Whether it is makeup or skincare related, or even an item I can add to my wedding emergency kit, This site has a ton of information that helps me better my business.  It may not be one of the biggest influences in helping my business, but it has a lot of tips and ideas that give something to my business.  And I wanted to address this to my readers.  It is a site called Influenster.  I have been a member since 2012 and what I like about this website is that it allows you to connect with other people and learn about new products that are out there.  Why I like Influenster is because I am always looking for new products to help my brides prep their skin  or find products that can help them feel more relaxed and ready for their big day.  I look at reviews from other members and I also review some products myself.  I mean if it works, spread the word!

I stumbled upon Influenster when I was trying to find a wedding subscription box that I can use to help me get inspired to write posts and help inspire brides for their wedding.  I’ve seen many subscription boxes out there, but it never quite caught my attention.  When I found Influenster, I thought this was just a scheme to get free stuff. But it’s more than that.  When you get to connect with other people in the Influenster community, you gain tips and tricks on what products are good and what aren’t.  You get to share your opinions and the perks of sharing, is having the opportunity to receive free products to try.  One of the boxes that I received was a Mary Kay Voxbox.   I got literally 5 full size products to try.  All i had to do in return was review the products once I’ve tried them out for a while.  If I was never sent this box, I don’t think I would have found a new favorite makeup line!  Another product I received was the Dr Scholl’s Insoles.  They were a great product and something I suggested to  my brides who wanted to get fit for their wedding.  I had a lot of good feedback on these soles and I still use them in place of my Nike insoles.

Influenster is not just about receiving free products, it’s more about connecting and finding new products to help better your business or someone else’s life.  It is a great way to find products that would work for you and learn about products that aren’t good without having the hassle of purchasing and returning it.  So give influenster a try.  You have nothing to lose if it’s not for you!

Wedding Day // Irene + John 11.8.14

I recently had the pleasure of planning and coordinating a wedding at the California Science Center in Los Angeles.  It was pretty amazing.  What made it even more special and dear to me was the fact that this was my cousin’s wedding as well.  And so the pressure began to make sure this wedding went off without a hitch!  It was also the first time my family would see my passion with wedding planning in action.  It was pretty nerve-racking.  But as the day went on, I got so many compliments from family and guests that I couldn’t be more happier with my accomplishments.  I wanted to show you all a Same Day Edit video from my cousins wedding.  FonD Productions made such an amazing video in such a short amount of time.  It’s pretty awesome.  You just have to watch it for yourselves.  =)

Tip Tuesday: Rainy Wedding Day

91874_686243073_l

Who said that rain on your wedding had to be a bad thing? If your wedding day ends up having some unexpected rainfall, why not take advantage of it with your photographer.  Overcast skies give off some of the best lighting.  Get creative with the lighting and rainy window panes.  I just love how raindrops look on window panes.  Heck, I just love rain in general.  I’m a dancing in the rain kind of gal.  Rain can give off such a unique artistic feel to your photos.  Being outdoors during the overcast can allow for some pretty romantic photo ops.

If it’s still raining at the end of the night and you aren’t worried about getting your dress ruined, run into the rain and share a dance with your wedding party.  No umbrella required.  You get great photos and an awesome way to end the night.  Just make sure you’re wearing your favorite waterproof mascara! Embrace the Rain!

Trending Thursday: Long Sleeve Lace Wedding Dress

Vintage is definitely here to stay.  We oftentimes think that a long sleeved dress would be too conservative for a bride.  That it hides her confidence and doesn’t make her stand out as much as if she were to bare her shoulders.  But the trend has caught on and the lacy long sleeves are in! You can definitely make a statement with a long sleeved dress. I feel that the long sleeve lace would bring more of a romantic look to the bride.  My mother wore a lace sleeve dress and she looked stunning and elegant in it.  Of course, that was 20 some odd years ago and now this dress style is definitely coming back to stay.  A bride does not need to bare all to stand out.  The confidence she exudes in whatever she wears will shine through.  So don’t be afraid to wear that long sleeve lacy dress you’ve been eyeing at the boutique.  If that gown is what you want to wear, wear it with pride and strike a pose!

Inspiration Day: Sparklers (How to properly use them)

Sparklers have become quite a popular trend in weddings.  I love how they look in photos.  They make for a beautiful exit or entrance.  Guests typically line up in two lines to create a tunnel for the bride and groom to pass through.  Sparklers can also be given out as party favors or used on cakes.  They can also be used to create a sparkling light show for your guests to enjoy.  There are so many different ideas you can do with sparklers.  I feel that the main concern with sparklers is how to use them properly and knowing what kind of sparklers to look for.  If you follow these easy steps, you can use sparklers for any part of your wedding and feel safe about it. 7006921526_3ba6fa316f_o

The best and safest kinds of sparklers The best kind of sparklers to get are the ones made from wire that is dipped multiple times in a thick mixture of pyrotechnic composition.  The composition should dry smoothly and there should be no  rust on the wire.  Rust makes it difficult to use and it could be dangerous.  The wire sparklers are also the safest to use.  There are also bamboo sparklers being manufactured.  These don’t burn for long and the charred pieces will break off and cause a mess to the ground.  If used indoors, bamboo sparklers are a definite no-no. Using wire sparklers are okay to do because they emit less smoke. Wire sparklers are the safest ad last longer.

How to light sparklers Matches are not the best to light up sparklers.  They are not get hot enough before the the flame gets to the bottom of the match and if they do light up, you risk burning yourself.  Cigarette lighters are also not recommended because they can burn your hands as well.  Barbecue lighters or propane torches are the best to light sparklers because the flame is away from the hand holding the lighter.  Another way of lighting a sparkler is lighting it with another sparkler.  Have a designated lighter on each row of lines.  Line everyone up with a sparkler in hand and light each sparkler as you go down the line.  This is probably the quickest way to do it and most efficient because the sparklers will light up almost instantly.  Do not light multiple sparklers at a time.  This is unsafe and can catch everyone by surprise.  Sparklers light up with an instant burst of sparks.  The best way to hold the sparkler is either horizontally or tilted down towards the ground while holding the tip of the metal wire.

Holding the sparklers Children must always be supervised by an adult.  You want to make sure they don’t do anything unsafe or foolish with the sparklers.  Also, keep sparklers away from anything that is flammable.  Hold the sparklers at arms length, away from the face and body. When disposing the sparklers, have a bucket filled with water or sand available.  Make sure no one touches the burnt part of the wire because it will still be hot.  Once the sparklers are cooled down, they can be disposed. Sparklers can be fun and make for beautiful photos.  Just follow these easy steps to stay safe and it will be a success!!   p

Friday Favorites: Fall Series //3//: Big Bloomed Flowers

Beautiful greenery and florals can help to enhance your venue.  They can also turn a mediocre place into an recognizably magnificent place.  I love flowers and how they just brighten up a room with their presence.  My most recent obsession is big bloomed flowers.  Instead of bouquets and centerpieces that are put together with just small flowers, try arranging big bloomed florals with smaller accent flowers to put everything together.  You don’t even need to pick one kind of big bloomed flower.  Pick a couple that go with your wedding colors.  Dahlias, Zinnias, and Marigolds are in season during the Fall and they’ll look great together.  You know what they say, “Go big or go home.”
